The Great Adventure of The HE-Child
Millaiseen muottiin haluamme miehen asettuvan? Mitä on nykypäivän mies?

Solo piece The Great adventure of The HE-Child
What kind is the mould in which we want a Man to settle? What is a Man these days? Who will take care of us if we drop out of the rat race? What kind of scenery and images we build around us when we represent ourselves in public? This solo piece tells about our egocentricity, lack of initiative and blindness in the face of making choices, but also about rebuilding our self-image, taking care of each other and survival.
The performance builds a symbolically representative foundation of the society with chairs which also represent the seven deadly sins. It deals with the conflict between an easy life and the struggle out of it. The Man in the piece will be dressed to look socially acceptable and elegant, but He explodes in a fit of rage after becoming distressed in this artificial framework and he literally breaks the structure into peaces. The piece deals with the frameworks and rules that have been imposed on us about the male role in society. The work examines the modern-day cliches about men, their emotions, insensitivity and communication problems, as well as the surging rage and violence within them. The work is a representation of contemporary dance and dance theater.

Once Upon a Time There Was a Fairytale...
Olipa kerran satu… kertoo sadun saduista!

Short description of the work:
The piece is using dance theatre in a new innovation way by concentrating more to what
happens to a performer her or him self during a dance. There are two solos and one duet in
the piece. Solos are made for female dancer and to cello-musician. Dancer is wearing a dolly
outwear and she is dancing in a middle of hundreds of dolls. The dancer and musician are
discussing between dance and music, working together or against each others. Topics of these
solos are frustration what comes when contradictions of feelings are locked inside and
dilemma of just being with oneself is impossible. Dancer has built herself a character who has
reality of her own witch starts to have Childs play features.
In a duet there are a young couple arguing in a street and don’t care if someone is watching
them. Problems in a relationship come in a surface and arguing starts to have physical
element and finally becomes acrobatic. Finally arguments start to have childish features and
in the end tired couple finds themselves again with equal understanding. Topic of the duet is
lack of communication and wrong way of approaching each other. That something that they
have had doesn’t work anymore, it feels boring.

Themes of the piece are contradictions between people or contradiction with one itself.
Choreographer wanted to capture a moment when one starts to notice problems of being and
frustration takes over and one have to define its situation all over again.

The music of the piece has been built-up in teamwork between choreographer and musician.
Musician’s instrument is an electric cello; witch makes cellos harmonically sound become
more angular, and experimental. Composition has pieced together using improvisation and it
discusses with dance during the piece.
